Worthwhile Explorations

Lately, I’ve been thinking: “What if I start a new publication with no pressure, no fashion week attendance, fully encompassing everything I enjoy and want to write about?” and “What if I start writing short stories and create a compilation out of them, just because?” After all, isn’t written content—and all art, really—self-aggrandizing? We create what we want to see. And what I wish to see is content that encompasses everything that brings me joy: fashion, visual art, culinary art, music, drama, dance, spirituality, gardening/farming. I think there are ways it all ties together, which is what I’m working on right now.

In the past, I’ve kept my work very close to me, never truly sharing what anything is about until it’s done. But I believe there are others out there with interest in similar things. People who want to understand how things work, how art is created, how we are all interconnected. And, what’s more, I think there is a desire to return to legacy media, at least for non-political topics. There is a desire to hold a tangible magazine and flip through the pages, a desire to take personality quizzes and consider what trends you want to follow and the type of person you’d like to be. I certainly miss this kind of media I grew up with. Though imperfect in many ways, this interactive component inspired me.

So, I’m not sure what exactly all of this will look like just yet. But I believe that it’s worth it. I think we are all craving true connection. We’re craving the discovery of knowing how and where things we use everyday are created, made, harvested, or shared. I think we crave knowledge. And I think that means something. I think it’s worth exploring.
